Every year the ‘Bike to Work Week’ movement gains massive momentum. This year, over 20 communities within BC have jumped on board and the Fraser Valley is a significant participant. From May 28 – June 3, everyone is encouraged to ride to work and school!  In 2011, 460 Fraser Valley participants saved approximately 4,551 kg in greenhouse gases from entering the Earth’s atmosphere, which is an astounding increase of 108% from 2010! This growing participation has attracted attention from all over the Fraser Valley.  Bike to Work Week 2012 Registration is Now Open!  To help motivate participants to saddle up and take part, Life Cycles Bike Shop has donated a Commuter Cycling Prize Package worth over $1,000 and Cap-it Abbotsford is donating a vehicle bike-rack estimated at over $500. Cyclists only need to bike for ONE day, during Bike to Work Week.To qualify for the prize draw, participants need to register at www.biketowork.ca/fraservalley.
To kick-off Bike to Work Week in Abbotsford this year, come out to a free Barbeque on Monday, May 28 at 5 pm at Thunderbird Memorial Square by Abbotsford City Hall.

With a spell of warm weather heading our way, it’s worth reminding folks that we do have a Dress Code in our school district.  The basic rule to be followed will be that clothing must be in good taste, following community and school standards in attire.  Students are expected to dress in a clean, neat, modest and safe manner.

Inappropriate attire is defined as dressing in a manner that disrupts the educational process.  A formal school setting will be maintained and proper clothing worn by students will assist in maintaining this atmosphere.  Students will be asked to cover inappropriate clothing or find alternative and accepted clothing.

Garments such as halter tops, bare midriffs, tube tops, tank tops, and spaghetti straps are not permitted.  Hats or other head gear will not be worn in the school building.  Clothing should not have words or logos that promote alcohol, tobacco, or inappropriate language or pictures.

Even though the weather is warm, appropriate footwear is still essential.  Students like to run around, jump, chase and be active during our recess breaks.  Students wearing flip flops and other lighter shoes may end up with foot injuries.

Thank you for your cooperation!
